International Day for the Eradication of Poverty: Nourishing Hope, One Community at a Time

As we commemorate the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, we’re reminded of the profound impact that sustainable change can have on individuals, families, and entire communities.

This day serves as a beacon of hope, a call to action, and a testament to the transformative power of collective efforts. At the USANA Foundation, we are dedicated to more than just alleviating hunger; we’re committed to empowering communities and creating lasting change.

Here’s how we’re working to turn the tide on poverty, both locally and globally, and how you can join us in this mission.

Nourishing Hope with Garden Towers

Our international Garden Tower program embodies the age-old proverb: “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.”

Through this initiative, we’re not simply providing food, we’re equipping communities with the tools and knowledge to grow their own sustenance. Garden Towers are more than innovative gardening solutions—they’re symbols of self-sufficiency. Families have year-round access to fresh, organic produce, ensuring that no one goes to bed hungry.

This program isn’t about temporary relief, it’s about creating sustainable change. By working closely with our local partners and empowering individuals to take control of their food sources, we’re breaking the cycle of poverty, one Garden Tower at a time.

The impact goes beyond nutrition; it extends to economic growth, community empowerment, and hope for a brighter future.

Local Impact with Kids Eat

On the home front, our Utah-based Kids Eat program is making a tangible difference in the lives of children right here in our community.

Poverty often hits hardest among the youngest members of society, affecting their education and future prospects. Kids Eat seeks to change that narrative for thousands of hungry kids in Salt Lake county.

Each week, we provide over a thousand bags of 7 nutritious meals each to students in need at 40 different schools along the Wasatch Front. These meals aren’t just about filling bellies—they’re about nourishing minds. By ensuring that children have access to wholesome food, we’re removing a significant barrier to their education.

When kids are well-fed, they can focus on learning, growing, and thriving, and they have hope for the future!

How You Can Join In

International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is a reminder that each of us has the power to make a difference, no matter how big or small. Here’s how you can join us in our efforts to lift people where they stand.

1. Donate to Our Programs

Your contributions enable us to expand our reach, provide more Garden Towers, and deliver more school bags filled with nutritious meals. Every dollar makes a difference.

2. Volunteer

Your time and skills are invaluable. Consider volunteering with us to help pack school bags, maintain Garden Towers, or support our initiatives in other ways like going on a service trip with our global team to serve families around the world.

You can also join us at Kids Eat food packing events, where you’ll have the chance to make a direct impact by preparing nutritious meals for children in need.

3. Deliver Hope to Schools

Be part of our dedicated team that delivers meals to schools. Ensuring that children have access to nutritious food is a vital step in breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering them for a brighter future.

4. Holiday Bag Program

If you’re local to Utah, sign up for our Holiday Bag Program and bring joy to children in need during the extended holiday break. Your participation ensures that they have access to food and a reason to celebrate during this special season.

5. Spread the Word

Awareness is a catalyst for change. Share our mission with your friends, family, and social networks. The more people who know about our work, the greater our impact.

6. Advocate for Change

Advocate for policies and initiatives that address the root causes of poverty and hunger. Be a voice for those who need it most.

On this International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, let’s stand together in our commitment to creating a world where poverty and hunger are crises of the past.

It’s a future where every individual has the opportunity to thrive, learn, and grow. Join us in nourishing hope, one community at a time, and together, we can turn the tide on poverty for good.
