Over the last 18 months, the USANA Foundation has matched funds for nearly 40 fundraisers around the world. A single USANA Team completed four of those fundraisers. Wayne Song and Claire Wu live in Auckland, New Zealand. At the beginning of the Covid-19 global pandemic, they were fortunate enough to be living in a country with few Covid-related issues. New Zealand’s early lockdown on travel helped to prevent the spread of any outside illness within the country, but the overall lack of travel and commerce led to funding and other economic struggles for many businesses and non-profits. Seeing this need, Wayne, Claire, and their USANA team made the decision to focus their energy on fundraising throughout the year to help provide for schools, hospitals, and other organizations affected by the global pandemic.
The dedicated fundraising efforts of Wayne and Claire over the last 18 months made them the obvious choice to receive the USANA Foundation Ambassador Award in 2020, but their passion for service and helping the community goes back far before 2020. Before joining USANA, Claire worked in banking and Wayne worked in real estate. They have served the community for years, being particularly focused on Starship, a hospital, and KidsCan, a close partner of the USANA Foundation. Both organizations focus on children and children’s nutrition.
One aspect of USANA that always stood out to Wayne and Claire was the work carried out by the USANA Foundation. It was at a convention in 2018 that they learned about service trips and saw the impact that USANA had while working in Uganda. It was at this time that Wayne, Claire, and their team decided to begin donating monthly to the foundation on their auto order and they haven’t looked back since.
When asked about their reasons for serving and giving back so much to the community, Claire said, “I am so grateful for the way that New Zealand has treated us as immigrants. We have wonderful jobs, our children are receiving a quality education, and we are surrounded by people with strong values. With all of this to be thankful for, we knew that we needed to give back to the community that gave us so much.” Wayne echoed this by saying, “I am influenced positively by so many and want to pay it forward. Everything we do is about teamwork.” He went on to say, “Everyone involved in service has a mission. It creates so much more meaning in life when you have a mission.”
For the next year, Wayne and Claire are planning to continue working with their team. Depending on the lockdown situation, they also look forward to supporting the communities that they care about so much. We are excited to see what they accomplish.
