Eba Nyameke and her nine children

Ghana“My name is Eba Nyameke and I am 27 years of age. I am married with 9 children. Though I didn’t give birth to all these children, I have given birth to 4 of them. I do consider all of them as mine; though I struggle even to feed my own kids.

I grew up bitter and in pain, feeling unloved and suffering because, at the age of 7, I was physically and sexually abused. My mother could not help me and there was no other means to help myself. So I lived with this pain for many years as nobody was ready to listen to me. Children in my village are uncared for. The majority of children in this village live on the street, and they are used as farm help and common laborers. The future of these kids at risk. Disabled children do not have place in our community, especially the hearing impaired. The deaf and dumb will weep all day and nobody will
hear them; I believe that somebody ought to care for them.

I am glad you are here to see me; it is true that I am one of the recipients of these food bags and it helps me and my children. One of the things that also inspires me is the fact that since I did not have the opportunity to be in school, I can help others to be educated. I lived in pain as a child; I want to give others relief. I lived in bitterness; I want to give other children relief. I was abused; I want to give others an] opportunity to protect their dignity. I lived in a state of hopelessness but I decided to give others hope. I have decided to do this because I see the faces of these children as my own
reflection. I strongly believe that, with your continued support, we could make a difference in the lives of these children. Thank You.”
