“I have lived in sorrow for many years; but the last three years have been the most horrible. My husband and I were living together in our small room with all our five children. Although the living conditions were difficult, we believed that all would be well with us. During the month of February, 2010; my husband woke up one day and left the house and has since not
returned. He left a few months after that I gave birth to Benedicta, who has not seen her father since she was born.
In fact, I do not know how to search for my husband, as I have never traveled outside my village and do not even know the way to the city. The living condition with these children was unbearable.
I do not have money to send any of my children to the clinic, when they become sick; so I’ve used local herbs to treat them, which is the best I can do. For work I walk to the building construction site to carry water to earn 3.00cedis (which is the equivalent of 1.00 Dollar) to support my kids. The days that I’m unable to work, we go to bed without food and the children do not go to school the next day.
Life was indeed without hope. A few months ago, I gathered un-prescribed medicines to end my life, but that night I did not get water to push my agenda, so I decided to wake up early in the morning to go to the river side to get water to ensure that I complete it. When I woke up that morning , a volunteer was at my house to deliver a bulk of food to me and my children.
Today, I have enough food for my children’s every day; they go to school early and escape late for about three months now. Life would have been disastrous without these Food Paks. I am glad that we have enough.”
