Reaching out in Guatemala

GuatemalaEvery year Roca de Ayuda in Guatemala and one of our local partners join forces to reach out to the needy. One of the places they cover is called “La Montaña” in the city of Jalapa, a city found in the south eastern part of Guatemala. 80% of the population in Jalapa is agrarian, primarily harvesting corn, beans, and squash for personal consumption. However, Jalapa is knows as a “Corredor Seco” (dry corridor), suffering from constant droughts which leaves its inhabitants with nothing to eat for weeks or months.

Roca de Ayuda, in conjunction with a local church, put together a medical brigade, bringing doctors, nurses, and medicine free of charge to the people of Jalapa. After the first medical brigade, they decided to conduct one more brigade, this time bringing other resources to the needy families of the community. Armed with the resources sent through the your generous donations, Roca de Ayuda conducted a food brigade in Jalapa, this time bringing vitamin fortified rice casserole, shoes, toys, and other resources for the children and families in this area.
