The gift that keeps on giving
The Rios family was going through a very difficult time. The mother has severe diabetes and just found out she was pregnant with their third child. Because of her high risk pregnancy, Mrs. Rios’ medical bills were astronomical. The family was struggling to get by. As our local partners were going door-door introducing the Food Pak program, they knocked on the Rios family’s door. The volunteers explained the Food Pak program and asked if the Rios’ would like to be part of the program. The family was so amazed that someone would be willing to serve them that they gratefully accepted. The volunteers visited the
Rios family consistently. During the visits, they were able to build a relationship with the Rios’.
The Food Paks have helped to meet the family’s physical need by providing food for their two other children. They are able to use the money they would have used to purchase food to pay for Mrs. Rios’ unexpected medical bills. The Food Pak program has come full circle. Mr. Rios is now actively involved and he has joined the group of volunteers who distribute Food Paks in his community.
